Raymond Terrace Soccer Club’s already cracking year has been capped off with an award recognising its members’ hard work.
At Newcastle Football’s annual presentation on September 22, held at Wests New Lambton, the Lions walked away with the Club of the Year Award.
“To come out number one was a massive surprise for us,” club president Peter Petryk said.
“When they read out our name I couldn't believe it.
“[On stage] we thanked the committee for all the hard work its done this year, all our coaches, managers, volunteers.
“Without those guys we wouldn't have been in any position to be considered for club of the year.”
The Terrace soccer club celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2017.
It entered its first mixed team in the under-12s competition, had a number of teams in the grand finals it hosted at King Part Sporting Complex at the beginning of September and its zone league one first grade team, the Rangers, won the premiership.
Petryk believed hosting Newcastle Football’s grand finals had put them in good stead to win the award against the other 37 clubs in the area.
The weekend, which saw close to 40 season defining games played in the Terrace, went smoothly, he said.
“I think it was a big part of it,” Petryk said.
“All the hard work everyone put in, it ran smoothly, no incidents, the weather was good, we got a big wrap from Port Stephens Council for all the preparations on the field, I think all the presentation and effort that went in helped us win club of the year.”
In addition to members from his own club and volunteers, Petryk thanked Kris Sparks and Lynn Sparks from Tilligerry Football Club for their assistance during the grand final weekend.
As well as a plaque, for their club of the year win the Lions walked away with a $1500 voucher which will be used to buy new training gear in preparation
The 2017 committee included: Petryk as president, Jason Cameron (vice president), Joanne Landers (secretary), Ash Wade (treasurer), Karen Petryk (registrar), Maddie Landers (canteen manager), Hayden Carter, Chris McCabe and Garry Wright (committee members).
Northern NSW Football is pleased to announce Raymond Terrace Junior Soccer Club (JSC), from Newcastle Football as Newcastle Permanent Club of the Month Winner for March 2018.
